Year Two
Throughout the year, children will develop their Working Scientifically Skills:
- using simple equipment to observe closely including changes over time
- using observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions, noticing similarities, differences and patterns
- identifying, classifying and grouping items related to their science learning
- performing simple comparative tests
- gathering and recording data to help in answering questions including from secondary sources of information
In Autumn 1, children have been learning about Materials. This includes:
- identifying different materials and their properties
- sorting human and natural materials
- explaining why some materials are more or less suitable to tasks based on their properties
- investigating how materials can change shape by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching
- learning about civil engineer and road builder John McAdam
