At Mission Grove we want every child to be the best that they can be. We believe that this starts with a solid foundation and enjoyment of learning from the very beginning of a child’s school journey. We aim to provide the highest quality care and education for every child.

We strive to create a welcoming, safe and happy environment, which challenges and supports pupils to achieve their potential and to become independent, confident learners.

Mission Grove Nursery offers part-time and full time for children aged between three and four.  We are a play-based setting where children develop and learn both indoors and out, through carefully planned activities that are designed to stimulate their curiosity and develop their love for learning.  Our aim is to give the children a fun, safe and stimulating space in which to start their journey into education.   

Key Worker: Each child in the nursery has one special member of staff, their Key Person, who has specific responsibilities for that child and their family while they are with us. If you have an established friendship with a member of staff, they will not be your child's Key Person. Helen and the Senior Teachers allocate Key People.

Your Key Person will:

• complete an entry profile with you to enable us to get to know your child
• help your child to settle in
• be the person you talk to if you have any concerns
• meet with you to discuss your child’s progress
• make observations, take photographs, gather samples of work and plan for you child’s progress
• gather information from other members of staff, and share information with them about your child to help them move on in their learning
• write a record of your child’s achievements whilst at the nursery
• oversee your child’s transition to infant or primary school.

All the adults in the nursery work as a team and will support the development of your child but your child’s Key Person will be your first point of contact if you wish to discuss anything about your child. Having spoken to the Key Person you are welcome to speak to the class teacher as well.

2Simple and Special Books: How we record your child's achievements:

We record your children's developments through observations, which we record on Evidence me. You will have a login to view your child progression and significant achievements. 

The main way that children learn and develop at a young age is through their play.  You should set aside some time each day to play with your child, doing an activity that they have chosen.

Reading to your child at home is also vital if they are to develop a love of books and reading.  By reading to your child in any language every night as part of their bedtime routine, you will lay the foundations for a successful school life.

Finding their feet: One of the biggest things that your child will develop whilst at nursery is their sense of independence, from selecting toys and activities to dressing themselves.

It is important that when children start at the nursery they can go to the toilet by themselves and wash their hands.  They should be wearing pants or knickers and not pull-ups.  We are happy to deal with a few accidents and help develop your child’s confidence and toileting skills.  Please let us know if you need any help or advice with toilet training.

The morning session runs from 8.45am - 11.30am

The afternoon session runs from 12.45pm – 3.30pm

South Site 

The morning session runs from 8.30am - 11.30am

The afternoon session runs from 12.30pm – 3.30pm

If your child is attending nursery full-time our session starts at 9am – 3pm. They will have lunch at 11.30am in the dining hall.

Stay & Play  

Stay and Play is from 8.45- 9.30am and 12.35-1.30pm every Friday. 

Our stay and play sessions are always popular, with loved ones enjoying the opportunity to join us for an hour and find out more about life here at Mission Grove.

But if you haven’t been to a session before you might not know what to expect.

Before you arrive, staff will have set out numerous activities for the children and yourself to take part in, which could be anything from crafts to take home and messy play to role-play and musical instruments.

It’s also a great opportunity for you to get to know the team.  Even though we try and give you as much information as we can every day we know it can be a rush when you drop off or pick up your child, so we find these sessions give you a chance to spend more time with your child's key worker and the other staff members working closely with them.

So do ask any questions you have, we’ll always give you as much information as we can about the types of activities your child enjoys most when they’re with us, and it also gives you the opportunity to put faces to names as you may have heard your little one talking about their friends but not had the chance to meet them yet.

We know it’s not always possible due to other commitments, but we want as many families as possible to be able to attend stay and play sessions, so if you have any suggestions about how we can make them more inclusive and which days and times work best for you, then please let your key worker know, so we can try and accommodate as many people as possible.

Books

Children will go to the library bus and take books home on a Friday.
