     Welcome to life in Reception

We have been in school for 5 weeks. Where has the time gone? We have learnt many things during that time. The children have been busy exploring, learning new things and making lots of exciting discoveries along the way. Have a look at some of the wonderful moments we have shared over the past 2 weeks.

    Maths

In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of numbers to 5. Our next focus is on comparing two groups of objects and correctly identifying which has more, fewer or whether they have the same amount, using matching, representing and subitising strategies. By the end of the unit, we will be able to identify if a group has more or fewer objects and to say if groups are equal or not.

    Literacy

In Literacy, we have been reading 'The Pumpkin Soup' story. The book shows us how important sharing is and how we can upset our friends if we do not ask to use their belongings. It has taught us a great lesson!

We also had the chance to enjoy some delicious pumpkin soup, some of us even had seconds. We used child-friendly knives to cut our pumpkin into slices, added salt and mixed it just as it was done in the story.

     Art

The children have been getting creative by decorating and painting pumpkins in different designs. They have also been using their imagination and fine motor skills to mould and shape playdough into their very own pumpkins. It has been lovely to see their creativity and the unique pumpkins they have created!

    Phonics

We have learnt 21 sounds so far. We still have more to go, and we are pressing on!
