Week beginning 6th October 2025:
Victorian High Tea
All the students thoroughly enjoyed their Victorian High Tea, whilst simultaneously celebrating diversity and culture.
A massive thank you to all parents for participating and sharing their delicious food!
Upcoming events:
Week beginning 29th October 2025:
Chaffinch class created pumpkin sun catchers and used wonderful adjectives to describe them!
Week beginning 22nd September 2025:
Phonics:
The students have now been placed into phonics groups based upon internal assessments. They will receive a book every Friday from next week. Please do read with them and write a brief comment in their reading records.
They must bring their phonics books and reading records everyday so they can read with the teaching staff during early morning reading sessions.
Pumpkins!
Chaffinch class has had lots of fun creating clay pumpkins! They have been inspired by the book 'Pattan's Pumpkin', which they are reading during their literacy lessons.
Science:
We have been learning about the human body and discussing some super facts about it. The students have worked together to learn about what is on the inside of our body as well as the outside.
We drew around our bodies and then labelled each part of the outer body.
Maths:
Year 1s have been exploring counting to 10. They have been completing number bonds to 10 using a range of manipulatives.
Week beginning 8th September 2025:
Throughout year 1, the students have been learning about sustainability. We have been reading 'What Does It Mean To Be Green?', which is a fantastic book about ways in which we can help support our environment.
The students produced displays across both sites, and together we created our very own 'Pledgehogs'!
We explored the wildlife garden and discussed how we can recycle our plastic to make an array of useful things, like bird feeders!
We also started creating our very own toys using plastic bottles brought in from home.
The children have started practising their phonics and spelling within class. We are on week 2. Please continue this at home. If you do require any further information or advice on how to support your child, please do approach the teacher.
Welcome to the Year 1 web page, on which you will be receiving all the updates surrounding your child's progress.
