Selected pupils from Year 5 and Year 6 recently took part in the exciting Tour de Waltham Forest cycling event, joining schools from across the borough to celebrate active travel, cycling skills, and friendly competition.
Throughout the day, the children rotated through a series of carefully designed cycling activities that tested balance, control, awareness, and teamwork. They practised essential cycling safety skills, including manoeuvring around obstacle courses, signalling correctly, and navigating shared spaces responsibly. These activities were designed to build confidence on the bike while reinforcing key road safety messages promoted by Transport for London.
In addition to skill-based sessions, the pupils took part in competitive cycling challenges, where they worked together in teams to complete timed races and relay-style events. Each child contributed to their team’s overall performance, demonstrating determination, encouragement, and excellent sportsmanship throughout.
The event atmosphere was vibrant and supportive, with pupils cheering each other on and showing real resilience when faced with challenging courses. Staff praised their positive attitudes and willingness to try new skills.
After an exciting and action-packed day, the team’s hard work paid off as they achieved an impressive second place overall among all participating schools.
The school is incredibly proud of the pupils for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and commitment to active travel. Events like Tour de Waltham Forest continue to inspire children to enjoy cycling safely and confidently as part of everyday life.
